Special unit to bust drug-terror

A special Police unit to bust existing drug trafficking activities has been put into action on instructions of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The unit was originated with a definite purpose - to wipe out the island wide network of drug trafficking while apprehending drug-lords and associates.

The anti-narcotic unit activates across 42 Police Divisions and is headed by Senior DIG M.K Illangakoon, under direct supervision of Inspector General of Police.

This will be a declaration of war over the drug lords and the outcome will be an inevitable defeat for the former with the Defence establishment and Police meaning no-nonsense over the approach, Police sources said.

Meanwhile, the measures also are underway for a hot-line, assisting public to tip-off ongoing narcotic activities.
