Japan gives Rs.57mn for childhood care

 

The Government of Japan has provided assistance for two early childhood care projects in Nuwara Eliya and Trincomalee districts amounting to Rs.57 Million.

The first project in the Nuwara Elya district will assist 11 plantation communities in the district to provide better early childhood care for more than 300 children through activities of constructing three pre-schools, providing study materials for another 12 pre-schools, and training about existing and new employed pre-school teachers.

The second project, to be implemented in the Trincomalee district is a follow up project from the phase 1 that helped resettled communities to construct and renovate pre-schools and completed in June this year.

The new Phase 2 will include construction and renovation of pre-schools, enhance teachers training, community participation and management of pre-schools, and will provide livelihood support for communities and will benefit approximately 1,000 resettled families in the Trincomalee district.
