Jamaica admires Sri Lanka’s lead in defeating terrorism

The Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Gelding expressed admiration of the success achieved by President Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka in exploding the myth that terrorism could not be defeated, and thereby setting an example to the world on dealing with what has become a scourge to many countries.

This was stated at the bi-lateral talks between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Jamaican Prime Minister at the UN, New York, yesterday (22), where the improvement of bi-lateral relations between Jamaica and Sri Lanka was the main focus of discussions between the two leaders.

The discussions also dealt with the possibility of cooperation in the development in the Tourism Sector, with the opportunities to use Jamaican expertise in this field.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the problems faced by countries in the Middle Income Sector in aspects of development, and the difficulties faced by such countries in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), as well as the policies that should be followed to face these challenges.
