President Mahinda Rajapaksa has today endorsed the second court martial recommendation to sentence MP Sarath Fonseka.

The second court martial recommended maximum three years imprisonment to the former Army Commander. The President has recommended two and half years (30 months) in his endorsement in keeping with the maximum period for the offence in accordance with the law.

The final hearing of the 2nd Court Martial was held on the 17th September at the Navy Board Room, Colombo.

With President being the Commander-in-Chief, his signature is mandatory to carry out court martial recommendations.
