Universal Children's Day
Open all paths to mother Lanka’s children –
President tells adults |

As adults, the noble duty of our time is to open all paths to mother Lanka’s children to live as a nation second to none, unyielding to any external power. Only then will the theme of the Universal Children’s Day, ‘brighten the children’s world - empower all,’ be a reality, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his message to mark the Universal Children's Day.
"It is my strong belief that all adults including parents, should have a sensitive and positive vision for our children to provide them a bright future. No doubt with such a vision, harassment of children and violations of their rights would be greatly reduced," President further said.

I am pleased to send this message to the Universal Children's Day which is celebrated today with unprecedented dignity as the country enters a path for prosperity with the restoration of peace.
Creation of a perfect younger generation lays the foundation for a bright future. Recognizing this responsibility, the government has committed itself to ensure physical, mental, spiritual and character development, providing care and protection to the unborn child until they become adults. This government has invested a great deal in improving health, education and nourishment of children in all provinces of the island, empowering their families and providing them with the necessary protection. Our motto in this endeavour is, ‘Best things for children’.
It is my strong belief that all adults including parents, should have a sensitive and positive vision for our children to provide them a bright future. No doubt with such a vision, harassment of children and violations of their rights would be greatly reduced.
Progressing well on an accelerated development plan, today, we have successfully completed building thermal and hydro electricity power plants, highways, massive ports, international airports and large-scale irrigation projects. In addition, we are triumphant as a nation to have taken many steps for the quantitative and qualitative improvement of capacity-building areas such as education and information technology in order to create a younger generation who are able to think globally and act locally.
As adults, the noble duty of our time is to open all paths to mother Lanka’s children to live as a nation second to none, unyielding to any external power. Only then will the theme of the Universal Children’s Day, ‘brighten the children’s world - empower all,’ be a reality.
