IDPs drop to 23,352

 

The total number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Vavuniya and Jaffna relief villages has dropped to 23,352 as of today (Oct. 06), due to the Government’s speedy resettlement programme.

Only 22,194 IDPs remain in five zones; Anandakumaraswami Kadirakamar, Ramanadan, Arunachalam and Zone 4 in Vavuniya district. This number includes 8,185 people out of camps using the freedom of movement. The total number of IDPs in Jaffna is 1,158 IDPs, the Ministry of Resettlement said.

According to the Ministry, the government has resettled over 200, 000 IDPs belonging to over 60, 000 families in their places of origin as of today.
