"Mobile Library Service" in Jaffna

A "Mobile Library Service" will be launched in Jaffna tomorrow (7 October) funded by the European Union.

This will be operated by the Public Library and will visit each educational zone once in every four weeks. This service which will be for an initial period of six months and it will benefit thousands of children from over 100 schools in the 5 education zones.

The Mobile Library Service will function as a lending library to children of all ages. The aim of this venture is to provide better access to publications and educational material to those who have no or less access to library services. It is also a means to create awareness not only among the children, but also Principals, teachers and parents on the importance and value of education.

This is yet another opportunity to further enhance their knowledge and provide benefits to the children who were affected directly or indirectly by the conflict, which came to an end last year.

This initiative will be launched by Mrs. Yogeswari Patkunarajah, the Mayor of Jaffna and the European Union Minister Counsellor, Mr. Wim Prud'homme in the presence of senior government officials, principals, students and the general public.
