A programme is underway to provide electricity for over 33,000 households in the North Central Province, under the Rural Electrification Project 4 which will extend the electrification coverage to 100%.

Under this project 225 rural villages are to be provided electricity that involves the construction of 225 new substations.

The project is being implemented under the financial assistance arranged by Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). The total cost of the project is estimated to be US $59.365 million.

The contractor of the project, Mis. Eitel Networks of Sweden has agreed to arrange a financial facility of US $50.46 million being 85% of the project.
