First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa is due to address the First Ladies Summit today, October 13.

The inaugural session of the First Ladies Summit was held on October 11 at Seri Peradana House under the patronage of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Sri Mohomed Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

Themed "A child today, A leader tomorrow", the Summit is attended by twenty two First Ladies in the world.

Children and women are the sections mostly affected by terrorism, the financial crisis, energy crisis, natural disasters, violence against children and women throughout the world, stated the Malaysian Prime Minister delivering the inaugural speech.

He thanked the First Ladies for their participation to safeguard children and women from such crises. Child Development and Women's Affairs Minister Tissa Karaliyadda and Parliamentarian Kamala Ranatunga are accompanying the First Lady on her visit.
