Lanka-Korea to promote bilateral tourism

 

The Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister agreed to promote Sri Lanka as a key tourist destination among Koreans.

This was stated when Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa met the Korean Minister during his visit to Korea. The Korean Minister also assured to work in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Government in promoting bilateral tourism and cultural relations.

The Korean Minister further agreed to recommend the Korean Transport Ministry in establishing direct air links between Colombo and Seoul which is one of the main hindrances in promoting bilateral tourism. He accepted an invitation extended by Minister Rajapaksa to visit Sri Lanka.

Minister Basil Rajapaksa who is on a four-day official visit to Republic of Korea called on Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister, Foreign Affairs and Trade First Vice Minister and Korea International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) President.

Korean Foreign Affairs and Trade First Vice Minister agreed to extend all possible assistance in facilitating Korea's Overseas Development Cooperation towards Sri Lanka. The KOICA President agreed to consider in funding many development projects in Sri Lanka. The President further informed that they are ready to send a team of experts to Sri Lanka on October 24 to commence the feasibility study on Mannar and Milady fishery harbours in the Northern Province.
