Samurdhi recipient numbers decline

The number of Samurdhi concession recipients in Sri Lanka has decreased due to improved income levels, stated the Director General of Samurdhi, Sri Lanka's national poverty alleviation programme, Bandula Thilakasiri.

The Samurdhi Director General pointed out that there were 1.9 million Samurdhi concession recipients in 2005. The number has declined to 1.5 million now, he said.

Recently nearly 500 Samurdhi beneficiaries in Thalawa divisional secretariat division returned their Samurdhi beneficiary cards to the Government.
