Taxation report to President

 

The final report of the Presidential Commission on Taxation 2009 was handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by the Chairman of the Commission Prof W.D Lakshman at Temple Trees yesterday (26 Oct).

The Commission on Taxation was appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2009 to study the structure of the local taxation and make proposals.

The Commission has prepared this report after an in-depth study of the structure of the local taxation and structures of the organizations related to it. The Commission has made suggestions to simplify the taxation system to reduce difficulties faced by tax payers and to simplify the administrative systems.

The Commission cited their observations on the reduction of the income from taxes as per the Gross Domestic Product and gave proposals on increasing it. It also gave suggestions to utilize information technology to ease the paying and collecting of taxes.
