Two Northern roads re-open after 30 yrs

The Velanai–Kayts road via Puliyankudal and Mandaitivu–Jaffna road which were closed for more than thirty years due to terrorism were re-opened on 24th October.

A bus service on these routes was also commenced for the general public, under the directive of the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development.

The Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda said the SLTB buses would be used for transportation on these routes and with the re-opening of these roads; the industries that flourished once could be resuscitated and developed.

He said the electricity to the islet would be supplied before the end of November and added that he would take necessary steps to see the SLTB buses run according to a set time table. The drinking water problem would be solved as early as possible, he said.
