Mega development projects in K’gala

 

The government has initiated several projects to improve infrastructure facilities in Kurunegala including improvement of irrigation facilities, educational sector, administrative facilities, establishment of industries, construction of roads and bridges and launching of water supply schemes.

Under these projects, the Urban Development Authority is implementing 7 development projects in the Kurunegala district for the benefit of the urban population and businessmen, at a cost of Rs.361.65 million. These projects include the construction of a multi-functional building in Makandura, market building, bus stand and shop in Galgamuwa, bus stand in Anamaduwa, Town Hall in Ibbagamuwa, and bus stand development in Narammala.

The Water Supply and Drainage Board has implemented 8 Water Supply projects in the district to benefit over 44,500 people in the district, at a cost of Rs. 915.95 million during the last 5 years.

Rs 206.79 million has been spent for 16 projects to improve administration facilities in the district. These projects covered construction and renovation of Secretariat buildings throughout the district.

Construction work for the establishment of two Export Processing Zones commenced in 2006 at a cost of Rs.400 million. These 2 Zones being established in Mawathagama and Polgahawela would generate job opportunities for over 7,500 persons.

A project is being implemented to provide Hotel Sector training for youth in the Wayamba. It is estimated to provide training for 200-500 youth per year. Rs.100 million has been allocated for this project.

Construction of 255 dairy farms and 28 breeding centres are being carried since 2008 at a cost of Rs. 341 million. Farmers of the North Western Province will be covered by these projects.
