I/NGO support for NE development – Minister Rajapaksa

 

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that he expects the support of the United Nations, International and Local Non- Governmental Organizations (I/NGOs) for the further development of the Northern Province.

The Minister added that aid is not only targeted for the development of the area but will also facilitate the IDPs who are in welfare centres.

The Minister made this statement while addressing the Heads of International Organizations yesterday (08) at the Presidential Secretariat. The Heads of the United Nations Development Programmes, World Health Organization, International Labour Organization, World Food Programme and 12 other Organizations participated.

Minister of Economic Development emphasized that support of welfare organizations is needed to uplift Agriculture and Fisheries Development in the North. At the same time permanent residence procured will be noteworthy, said the Minister.

Minister Basil also requested to educate fisherman on new fisheries equipment, new aid schemes and for the implement of large scale projects. At the same time the Minister added that by now some of the Sinhalese and Muslims in the North have focused their attention on business and highlighted the importance of supplying basic needs.
