SL, Serbia discuss agri cooperation |

Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris said that there is much scope to increase cooperation between Sri Lanka and Serbia, including in the field of Agriculture.
He made this statement recalling the meeting between President Rajapaksa and the Serbian President in Egypt last year, when the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Mirko Stefanovi called on the External Affairs Minister.
The Serbian State Secretary conveyed his congratulations to Sri Lanka for the stabilization after many years of conflict.
Minister Peiris who reiterated appreciation for the assistance provided by Serbia during the Tsunami and in Sri Lanka's fight against terrorism, also elaborated on the steps taken by the Government to return normalcy to the country, after a 30 year conflict.
During the Foreign Office Consultations, both sides acknowledged that the relations between Sri Lanka and Serbia go back many years and that the time is now conducive in both countries, to revitalize political and economic cooperation. The two delegations agreed to work towards the rapid expansion of trade, business and investment collaboration while also strengthening cooperation between the law enforcement authorities against the trade in narcotics and human trafficking. They also resolved to continue to have regular bilateral consultations.
The Serbian delegation also included the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Sri Lanka with residence in Delhi, Mr. Jovan Mirilovic; Head of the Department for Asia, Australia & Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Bojana Adamovic Dragovic, and the First Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in New Delhi, Ms. Jelena Nikolic. The Sri Lanka delegation to the Consultations was led by the Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs, Romesh Jayasinghe.
