Tourist arrivals up October |

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in October 2010 went up by 39.4 percent to 52,370, compared to the corresponding period the previous year.
Only 37,575 tourists arrived to Sri Lanka in October 2009, according to the latest figures released by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
Figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals from Western Europe, South Asia, East Asia, Middle East and North America.
Tourists from Western Europe, the traditional tourist generating market, rose 46.4 percent to 20,313 in October 2010. The number of visitors from the UK went up 13.7 percent to 7,494, those from France up 147.3 percent to 2,770 and from Germany up 62.3 percent to 4,381.
South Asian visitors rose to 33.0 percent to 16,735 with tourists from India up by 43.6 percent to 13,237, from Maldives up 1.3 percent to 2,459 and from Pakistan up 13.3 percent to 765.
Arrivals from Australasia went up 10.5 percent to 2,009 and from East Asia up by 40.5 percent to 5,283. Japanese visitors increased 36.9 percent to 968, visitors from Malaysia rose 59.9 percent to 1,028. Visitors from Singapore rose 81.2 percent to 868.
Tourist arrivals in the country increased sharply from May 2009 after defeating terrorism, ending Sri Lanka's 30-year conflict.
