Language lessons to public, private sector |

A Sinhala language class for school leavers, government and private sector employees in Jaffna started on 6th November 2010, under the Civil Military Coordination activities conducted by Security Forces Headquarters- Jaffna.
The course was organized by the 513 Brigade in Manipay on the request made by Tamil youths who are eager to learn Sinhala to overcome the communication barrier in the community.
Certificates will be issued to all participants who show satisfactory performances at the end-of-course test and the first course comprises 100 young men and women.
Meanwhile, 223 Tamil language classes are being held in seven Provinces island wide for Sinhalese government officers, with the participation of 6615 government officers, under a special project of the National Language Training Institute.
Also, another 44 classes are being carried out in the Northern and Eastern Provinces to teach Sinhala language to the Tamil government officers and 1718 officers are attending these classes.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa proposed to launch a “Trilingual Sri Lanka” initiative in 2011 under a ten year action plan to ensure the rights of every citizen to liaise with any government institution in Sinhala, Tamil or English with the aim of evolving an integrated society with a skilled workforce that is capable of employment of any part of Sri Lanka.
President also proposed to allocate Rs.100 million in 2011 to support this initiative under the relevant line ministries.
