LLRC to begin hearings in Trinco

 

The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) will commence open public hearings in Trincomalee in December 2010.

The Commission expects to obtain views and accounts of the people in Trincomalee who have been affected by the conflict.

The Commission conducts its regular hearings at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute in Colombo 7.

The LLRC previously has held public sittings in Colombo, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Batticaloa.

The itinerary of the Commission's visit to Trincomalee is as follows:

Friday, 3rd December, - 9.30 onwards Trincomalee Kachcheri

Saturday, 4th December – 9.30 onwards Muttur Divisional Secretary’s Office

Sunday, 5th December – 09.00 onwards Kuchchiveli Divisional Secretary’s Office.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa on May 10, 2010 appointed the eight member ‘Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation’ Commission to report on the lessons to be learnt from the events in the period, Feb 2002 to May 2009, their attendant concerns and to recommend measures to ensure that there will be no recurrence of such a conflict situation.
