95,169 hectares of land is expected to be used for paddy cultivation during Maha Season in the Anuradhapura District. Land expected to be cultivated for paddy would be 21,114 hectares under Mahaweli, 2,847 hectares under large scale irrigation and 7,220 hectares under small scale irrigation.
It is also reported that paddy has already been cultivated in 08 hectares of land under a large scale irrigation project and 987 hectares of land under rain water totaling to 1,124 hectares of land.
Identifying the 122,418 acres of paddy lands which were not cultivated for 30 years due to the conflict, the Government also took action to assist farmers to cultivate 60,000 acres of paddy lands in the Northern Province in the Maha season.
After the de-mining process is completed and infrastructure facilities provided, the Government will encourage farmers to cultivate 56,000 acres in the Kilinochchi District and 25,000 acres in Mullative District.
