Govt. position on 'Wikileaks'

"No comment on foreign govt's privileged communications"

The Ministry does not wish to comment publicly on privileged communications of a foreign government, said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement with regard to alleged inclusion of United States documents pertaining to Sri Lanka on the 'Wikileaks' website.

The statement further added, "if the contents reveal any material relevant to Sri Lanka’s interests, these will be taken up through diplomatic channels".

Following is the press statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs:

The Ministry of External Affairs is in the process of obtaining the contents of the documents allegedly pertaining to Sri Lanka put in the public domain by Wikileaks.

In principle, this Ministry does not wish to comment publicly on privileged communications of a foreign government. However, if the contents reveal any material relevant to Sri Lanka’s interests, these will be taken up through diplomatic channels.

The Ministry of External Affairs does not condone the act of putting in the public domain in an illegal manner, privileged and confidential information.
