More lands freed from mines

Jaffna Security Forces (SF-J) on the directives of the Army Headquarters took steps early this week to release more lands at Keeramamli for civilians who were original settlers there.

These blocks of lands were within the restricted zone due to the threat of landmines and other unexploded ordnance which made the area risky for civilians and their movements. During the past few months Army Engineers together with foreign de-mining agencies removed the explosives and handed over the land to civil administrative authorities Jaffna to implement resettlement.

A total of 3947 people of 970 families were resettled in the de-mined area which covered three Grama Seva Divisions, Elavalai North, Elavalai West and Withthakapuram.
