Citizens in large numbers gave evidence before the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) at the hearings in Trincomalee District held on 3, 4 and 5 December in three locations; Trincomalee, Muttur and Kuchchiveli.
Most of them told the Commission about land issues that during resettlement, the internally displaced found their original lands being occupied by others. They also told the Commission about missing family members. With regard to the areas' infrastructure facilities, a majority conveyed their satisfaction in the government's reconstruction work, the LLRC coordinating officer said.
Around 150 citizens gave evidence in Trincomalee, another 200 in Muttur and around 150 in Kuchchiveli.
Buddhist clergy and Catholic priests were among those who gave evidence.
