A decision was taken during the meeting between the Inter Agency Committee (IAC) and Members of the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) on December 10, 2010, to enable the next of kin to be kept continuously informed of the whereabouts of those detainees who are family members, through the avenues afforded by the widespread availability of communication technology throughout the country. Following are other decisions taken at the meeting,
- Any material presented to the LLRC during its sessions, both in Colombo and outside that may warrant further inquiry or investigation, will be immediately referred by the Commission Secretariat to the Chairman of the IAC;
- Every effort will be taken to ensure that necessary information is available especially to the public in the former conflict affected areas, concerning the rehabilitation and resettlement effort in the North and the East;
- The permanent instructions given to the law enforcement authorities concerning the collection of unauthorized weaponry throughout the island will be reiterated.
The Inter Agency Committee (IAC) chaired by Attorney-General Mohan Pieris was established to facilitate the implementation of the Interim Recommendations of the LLRC. The IAC will be continuing its work both through formal sessions as well as through informal consultations, until such time as the matters brought to the attention by the LLRC are resolved in keeping with the Cabinet decision establishing the IAC.
