“We constantly apprise foreign countries about the latest developments in Sri Lanka,” he said.

The Minister made these remarks during a program of Christmas Carols organized by the External Affairs Ministry at its premises in Colombo yesterday (23).

“It is necessary to galvanize our resources especially Sri Lankan employees in foreign countries for the development and maintenance of accountability in collaboration with diplomatic missions abroad,” he said.

The Minister said that the true spirit of Christmas was to pay attention to the needs and aspirations of the poor in the country.

Christmas is the time to cherish peace and goodwill and to be plenteous in mercy, he said, adding it is also time to reflect on values, affections and traditions of the people.

“We are celebrating Christmas this year after ending a 30 year war that threatened the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. The Government united the country under a single national flag and embarked on an ambitious program to ensure democracy throughout the country, bringing a new political vision that seeks both Development and Reconciliation to build a new Sri Lankan nation.

Now the time has come for all of us to get together and renew our faith and rebuild our alliances to face the challenge of this millennium together,” Prof. Pieris said. A new era was dawning upon Sri Lanka. The era that affirms the identity of the Sri Lankan nation, built on the very cornerstones of three major spheres, politics, social standards and economy has already been set in motion in conformity with a well-structured administrative network that rules this country.

Our national pride must be preserved and elevated in the international arena. Therefore, it was necessary for all of us to work in collaboration and collectively endevour to achieve the future goals,” he said.
