Paddy stores in Mullaitivu & Kilinochchi

Action had been taken to build two massive stores in Mullative and Kilinochchi Districts in order to facilitate the storage of paddy harvest expected in March 2011.

In order to facilitate this, the Northern Province Governor, GA Chandrasiri instructed the officials of the Northern Provincial Council and ENReP Project to build two massive stores in Mullative and Kilinochchi Districts. Each store will be built in an area of 2 acres.

Rs.80 million will be allocated to build these two stores and construction will be commenced in January 2011 to complete in March 2011, the Northern Province Governor said.

After ending a three decade long armed conflict, farmers in the Northern Province have commenced the cultivation of around 80,000 hectares of paddy lands which were abandoned during the war against terrorism.

Under the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Ministry of Economic Development, the Northern Province farmers have been provided with seed paddy, tractors, fertilizer and other facilities needed for cultivation.
