A solar energy park which Sri Lanka plans to build in the South of the country will help it reduce 963 tons of carbon emissions per annum, news360.lk reported.
This 1200 kilowatts solar power park which is expected to come up in Hambantota will be linked to the national grid. The park will see 2 plants being built with funding support coming from Japanese and the Korean governments.
This project is expected help Sri Lanka reduce its fuel quantities used to generate electricity by at least 429,800 liters per annum, the report added.
The proposed solar units will generate a combined capacity of 1200 Kilo watts. The first plant, a 737 Kilowatt unit will be funded by Japan with a loan of Rs. 1 billion. The second plant will generate 500 Kilowatts and is expected to get Korean funding.
The cost of the 2nd plant will run up to Rs. 630 million, news360.lk said.
