Another 105 buses will be provided to the public for use, by expanding the programme to repair and use thousand buses island wide.
This will increase the number of buses to 7000 to ensure an efficient service to the public. The Ministry of Transport started a programme to repair 1000 busses belonging to the Ceylon Transport Board three months ago. As a result, the number of buses belonging to Mathugama, Alutgama, Tangalle, Katharagama and Rathmalana depots were completely repaired.
The island wide depots are carrying out the repairing work and the ministry expects to complete the programme within the next five months.
The ministry will also import 500 buses to fulfill the transport needs of the rural areas.
