Colombo - Omanthai trains this month |

The train service between Colombo Fort and Omanthai will resume at the end of this month and the rail track has been constructed up to Omanthai under the Northern Railway Development Project.
Earlier the trains operated only up to Vavuniya and after the Northern Railway Development project was launched the rail track was developed and trains operated up to Thandikulam.
The Northern railway development project is being implemented under three phases. In the first phase the trains will operate from Vavuniya to Omanthai and from Omanthai to Palai in the second phase. In the third phase the service will be extended from Palai to Kankasanthurai.
According to the Department of Railways 159 kilometers are being developed under the project that includes 85 bridges, 58 culverts, 16 railway stations and 12 sub stations.
