Japanese classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) opened new exclusive surveyor office yesterday (05) in Colombo.
The new office become the 118th office in the Society’s global service network. The opening of the new office continues ClassNK’s aggressive network expansion, which saw the class society open seven new exclusive surveyor offices around the globe in 2010.
Nippon Kaiji Kyokai is a ship classification society. It is also known by the brand name “ClassNK” or often in the industry as just “NK”. It is a not for profit society dedicated to ensuring the safety of life and property at sea, and the prevention of pollution of the marine environment.
The ClassNK register grew by more than 10 million gross tons during 2010 to reach a total of nearly 179.5 million gross tons, further cementing ClassNK’s position as the world’s leading classification society in terms of gross tonnage under class, reported Ship Management International.
