Applications for postal voting for the 301 local government bodies that polls are being held, will be accepted from today (10), Additional Elections Commissioner W.P. Sumanasiri said.
He said that the 2009 voter lists, which would be used for this poll, could be viewed at several government offices including district secretariats for the convenience of the public and applications for postal voting could be obtained at these offices. He said that since the time period given to those who qualify for postal voting to apply was limited, prospective applicants should get the applications certified by their head of department and hand them over to the district returning officer as soon as possible.
Those eligible for postal voting were government servants posted on election duty and members of the three armed forces and the police.
