The Ministry of Health has taken action to deploy special groups of doctors to attend to the health care needs of the flood affected in the Eastern Province.
Accordingly, the first group which consisted 21 doctors went to Batticaloa on January 15. Another five groups of doctors will go to several areas of the Eastern Province tomorrow (Jan 18). These medical teams also include nurses and pharmacists.
In addition, more medical teams have been sent to the Eastern Province by Ampara, Batticaloa, Polonnaruva and Trincomalee hospitals. Also, 75 Public Health Instructors have been deployed in the East.
These medical teams will pay special attention on preventing epidemic diseases which is usually caused by floods. The teams will specially focus on prevention the spread of A H1N1, Dengue, Malaria, Diarrhea and typhoid.
