President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed the Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Local Government Commissioners as the competent authorities for the dissolved local government bodies.

Accordingly, the Assistant Local Government Commissioners will administer 10 urban councils.

The Divisional Secretaries have been appointed to administer 34 urban councils and 229 Pradeshiya Sabhas.

These appointments have been made in line with the powers vested in the President under Public Security Ordinance. An extraordinary gazette notification has been issued in this regard.

The competent authorities will administer the local government bodies between the period they are dissolved and new administration is elected.
