Ornamental fish export to double

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development has initiated a programme to increase ornamental fish exportation within the next three years.

At present, Sri Lanka earns Rs.920 million from the exportation of ornamental fish.

Training programmes have been initiated at the Rambadagalla training center on breeding ornamental fish, prevention of diseases and feeding.

Such training will enhance the production of high quality ornamental fish by farmers. This will also provide the technical knowledge to increase the varieties of ornamental fish. In addition, the farmers will be knowledgeable on carrying out research to find the methods to cure diseases spread among ornamental fish.
