SL among developed countries soon –

Dr. Balazs Botos, Hungarian State Secretary, Ministry for National Economy, expressed his confidence that Sri Lanka will be among the world’s developed countries in the near future.
He said so during a discussion with President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (18) at Temple Trees after a commemorative stamp was issued to mark the 125th Anniversary of the Labugama Reservoir and Water Purification Plant. The upgrading of the Plant will commence tomorrow with financial assistance from Hungary.
Dr. Botos conveyed to President Rajapaksa best wishes of the Hungarian President and discussed cooperation in various sectors.
The President apprised the Hungarian delegation on investment opportunities in the North and East, as well as development programmes carried out by the government. Tourism and cultural corporation between the two countries were also discussed.
President Rajapaksa added that it was one of the obligations of the government to provide safe drinking water to the public and at present the government is spending a large sum for this. He stressed that water is a natural resource which needs to be preserved.
Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Jeevan Kumaratunge, Geethanjana Gunawardena, Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa and other senior officials were present.
