During 2010 the National Carrier has handled 26,445 metric tons of transshipment cargo compared to 25,928 tons of cargo handled during 2006. It is a 43% growth compared to 2009, news360.lk reported.

Meanwhile, the Airline has handled a total of 156,142 tons of cargo covering all areas such as Imports, Exports, and Transshipment’s during 2010.

SriLankan announced that this is the 3rd highest ever total of Cargo handled at BIA during a single year.

The Airline which is the sole ground handler at BIA expanded its Cargo Handling capacity by commissioning a new Export Terminal during last year and is equipped to handle 300,000 metric tons of cargo in a year.
