The sixth baggage conveyor belt system and the new building at the Bandaranaike International Airport were declared open today (Jan 21) by the Minister of Civil Aviation Priyankara Jayarathne.

This baggage handling system can make the difference in an airport's ability to attract or keep a major airline hub. This also plays a crucial role in keeping travellers happy, Civil Aviation Authority said.

The main objective of having a sixth baggage belt system is to cater to the tourists arriving in Sri Lanka, especially with the increase in tourist arrivals with the end of the war.
