The period given for acceptance of nominations for the local government elections ended at 12 noon today (27).

According to Election Secretariat, 600 independent groups have nominations for the upcoming local government elections.

The Election Secretariat received the highest number to submit deposits from 115 independent groups contesting for local institutions in Digamadulla district.

The second highest number of deposits is for the Kalutara district. Seventy-two independent groups expect to contest for the local government bodies in the Kalutara district.
