A project is afoot to reconstruct the Kelaniveli rail track which leads Colombo to Avissavella, under the government’s programme to develop transport facilities in the country.

Minister of Transport Mr. Kumara Welgama and several officers had an inspection visit of the rail track and took measures to commence the reconstruction work.

This will reduce the three hours travel time from Colombo to Avissavella along the Kelaniveli rail track. It will also help reduce traffic along the high level road form Colombo to Avissavella.

Currently, twelve turns are operated along Kelaniveli and it will be further increased after the reconstruction.
