Somali pirates free Lankans

Two Sri Lankan fishermen taken captive by Somali pirates have been freed, officials said.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Kenya Jayantha Dissanayake said that two fishermen have been released and they will be sent back to Sri Lanka on payment of air ticket charges.

The two on board the trawler named ‘Lakmal 1’, which set sail from Sri Lanka’s southern coastal fishing harbor of Beruwela, were distressed and came under Somali pirate captivity on Nov. 20 last year.

Fisheries Department officials said the Somali pirates had not asked for any ransom for the release of the two Sri Lankan fishermen.
