Construction work on the International Arts Performance Theatre is being carried out in an accelerated phase.

The Theatre, located at Nomads Grounds is being built at a cost of Rs 3,080 million and China has financed a grant to cover 75% of the expenditure of this project, and the balance 25% is borne by the Government of Sri Lanka. The five storied Theatre covers a land area of 21760 square meters and the Centre covers a space of 14000 square meters.

The Auditorium covers three floors and has seating capacity for 1288 spectators. This International Theater has an electronically movable and changeable screen and advanced technical lightning capabilities. The Centre has two open air theatres and one indoor theatre and hence 3 Drama or Musical performances can be staged at a particular time. It is equipped with a special door which could prevent the spread of a fire.

One open air Theatre is on the 5th floor and many scenic sites in the Colombo City are visible from this floor. The other open air theatre covers the garden area of the Centre.

The Theatre also has facilities and rest rooms for the artistes. Nearly 200 vehicles could be parked in the ground floor and another nearly 100 vehicles could be parked in the basement. It is being built in the shape and form similar to the Lotus Pond in Anuradhapura and upon filling of water to the pond the whole structure will depict as a Lotus Flower floating on water.
