Sri Lanka launched its logo for its bid for ‘Hambantota 2018, Commonwealth Games’ under the auspices of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (31).
The advertising and marketing for Hambantota 2018 begins in full scale with the launch of the logo. President Rajapaksa has appointed a high-level Organizing Committee (OC) for the Commonwealth Games 2018 Candidate City Hambantota under the chairmanship of the Governor of the Central Bank, Mr Ajith Nivard Cabraal to plan and execute the necessary works related to this bid and the games.
The new logo underlines a compelling combination of Sri Lankan culture, rich tradition and excitement. The official logo promises to capture the hearts of everyone who is involved with the Commonwealth Games the world over. The Hambantota 2018 brand is simple, clear, daring and instantly identifiable, and tells the world what a courteous and friendly nation Sri Lanka is, the Hambantota 2018 organizers said.
The brand's message of strength and simplicity supports the Hambantota 2018 strategy of delivering a better and new experience to the Commonwealth Games and winning the hearts of people in commonwealth countries at every level.
Sri Lanka rapidly moves forward as a country with a distinctive vision and Hambantota's strategic location will help ensure that it becomes one of the most vibrant cities in Asia as a sporting, educational and tourism hub, they added.
Minister of Sports Mr. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Mr. Dilan Perera, Commonwealth Games 2018 Hambantota Organising Committee Co-Chairman and Governor of Central Bank Mr. Ajith Nivad Cabraal, President of Commonwealth Games Association and National Olympic Committee Mr. Hemasiri Fernando, Chairman of the Tharunyata Hetak movement Mr. Namal Rajapaksa MP, parliamentarians and other distinguished invitees were also present at the launch of the logo.
