Inflation as measured by consumer prices in Colombo, decreased to 6.8 percent in January from a 6.9 percent in December 2010 for the second consecutive month, figures released by the Central Bank said. The Colombo Consumer Price Index increased in January by 1.3 percent to 231.2 points from 228.3 points in the previous month, as a result of the price increases in the preceding twelve month period, especially during holidays.
The Central Bank attributes the low inflation rate to unchanged prices for petrol and diesel and prudent monetary policies.
