Elections Department today announced March 8th and 9th as the dates for postal votes for the forthcoming Local Government elections.
According to Elections Department, more than 400,000 are qualified for the postal voting.
The voters will have to bring their national identity card or any one of the alternative identity documents approved by the Elections Department. The official identity cards issued to the staff of Government Institutions will be accepted for postal votes.Local Government elections would be held on March 17 to elect 3,931 members for 301 Local Government bodies.
Over 20,000 candidates will vie for 301 slots in four Municipal Councils, 39 Urban Councils and 258 Pradeshiya Sabahas where over 12 million voters will be eligible to cast their ballot.
