All set for Independence Day and Deyata Kirula


Arrangements are all in place for the 63rd Independence Day celebrations, themed ‘Protect the Rebuilt Nation’ at Kataragama tomorrow under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s patronage.

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D J Senevirathne said that all facilities will be provided to the public to witness the event which is celebrated for the first time in the Uva Province.

The Government will launch a special transport service for the benefit of the people coming from adjacent districts. Over 3,000 members of Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and the Civil Defence Force will participate in the national day parade followed by the cultural show.

Meanwhile, arrangements are being made for the 2011 Deyata Kirula exhibition which will be held in Buttala, Moneragala parallel to the Independence Day celebration.

The Deyata Kirula exhibition will be held from February 4 to 10. Prior to the exhibition, several development activities were carried out throughout the Moneragala district.

The entrance for the exhibition is free for students while adults have to obtain a Rs 20 lottery. Many stalls of government institutes will be located in the premises.

The Security Forces will also have a stall to exhibit military equipment.

In addition, four main sporting events such as netball, kabadi, volleyball and bicycle races will take place from February 4.
