|
Electricity supplies to Uva and Eastern provinces are to be expanded at a 162 Million U.S. Dollars through a project jointly implemented by the Government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
12,000 households in both provinces will benefit under this project.
The ADB will provide a soft loan of 120 million US dollars for this project while the Government will fund the remaining 42 million US dollars. Under this project new transmission lines to electrify 12,000 households in remote villages which are not served by the national grid will be erected.
The project will expand coverage and improve the reliability of supply and help the government to achieve its objective of making the country self sufficient in election by end of 2012.
