Electricity
projects expanded |

The government has taken action to implement 513 electricity supply projects and a further 1071 projects relating to extension of power lines.
These projects will be implemented in the Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruva districts, under the Ministry of Power and Energy.
The projects being implemented are 58 electricity supply and 543 extension projects in the Kalutara district, 20 electricity supply projects and 281 extension projects in the Galle district, 14 electricity supply and 247 extension projects in the Matara district, 67 electricity projects in the Ratnapura district, 348 projects in the Kegalle district, and 6 projects in the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts. The cost for these projects is Rs.2, 122.72 Million.
According to the Ministry of Power and Energy, at present electricity supply has achieved 100% in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, and Hambantota districts. The progress of supplies in the other districts; Kalutara Matara Galle Ratnapura, Kegalle, Moneragala Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Ampara Trincomalee, Matale Puttalam, Mannar, Batticaloa, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Mulativu, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala, has shown a considerable increase by the end of 2010.
The Ministry claims that the goal of electricity for all objective of the Mahinda Chintana could be achieved even before the end of the year 2012.
