Road rehabilitation expedited

The government has taken steps to expand the rehabilitation work of the road from Dambulla to Habarana (21.5 km) at a cost of Rs.1534 million.

Habarana - Kantale (44 Km) road section of the Ambepussa - Kurunegala - Trincornalee (A6) Road has been recently rehabilitated under Asian Development Bank funding.

The road section from Ambepussa to Dambulla (91 Km) on A6 road has been earmarked for rehabilitation and improvement under World Bank Funding.

The rehabilitation of these roads will facilitate easy access to tourist destinations in the East Coast.

In addition, the Road Development Authority has commenced rehabilitation of 600 Km of highways through domestic contractors.

It has been decided that rehabilitation / construction of roads and highways in future should be with concrete surfacing where it is viable, as the authorities have observed that concrete roads are more durable and require less maintenance than the roads constructed with bitumen.
