94 fishermen who have been detained in Andra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu for fishing in Indian waters have been released after acceding to a request made by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.

Twenty trawlers will also be handed over to Sri Lankan officials along with the fishermen.

Hundred Sri Lankan fishermen were arrested and detained by the Indian authorities in 2010 and 2011. Steps have been taken to bring the remaining six fishermen to the country as soon as possible, the Ministry said.
