A plant will be established in Rathmalana by ‘Ideal Motors’ in collaboration with India's ‘Mahendra Group’, to assemble three wheelers, motorcycles and light vehicles.
The locally assembled light vehicles will be branded as ‘Ideal Lokka’ and operations will be launched end of March this year.
The plant will produce a light commercial vehicle with the latest CRDE technology and expected to sell around 400 units per month at the initial stage.
In addition, the ‘Ideal Motors’ together with Mahendra Group will also establish a technical college in motor mechanism in the near future, quoting the Ideal Motors Chairman Mr. Nalin Welgama, development.lk reported. The College will train young people who expect a career in motor mechanism.
The Ideal Motors has also made a tie-up with the Indian tyre giant, ‘Apollo Tyres’ as an authorized distributor to import and distribute passenger, commercial and agri tractor tyres as there is a significant expansion in the vehicle market in Sri Lanka.
The new tie up with Apollo will be launched in June and Apollo tyres will be available island wide thereafter.
